Welcome to the Parkham Parish Conservation Association Wiki

The PPCA was formed in January 2008 as a means of preserving the natural peace and beauty of the Parish of Parkham in North Devon. Parkham and the Yeo Valley are in a designated area of Great Landscape Value and includes an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Position Statement

There are many pressures on the country-side and always have been. However, the power of modern technology to disrupt the balance of the environment in which we live means we have a responsibility to proceed with care. The PPCA wants to promote a sense of awareness of the possibilities and the dangers so that, as a community, we make the right choices. The legislative framework that exits within the United Kingdom to protect our rural heritage is woefully inadequate to the task. We also now face legislation that will further relax the planning laws. By challenging those that exploit this situation and by promoting innovative schemes that benefit the country-side and all who live here and visit, the PPCA hope to be able to insure this heritage for the future.

Renewable Energy Objectives

This is a hot topic as the PPCA is currently fighting a Wind Turbine Cluster proposal for the Yeo Valley at Sedborough Farm. The PPCA's objectives with regard to renewable energy can be summarised as:

  • To promote the use of renewable energy that is not environmentally damaging
  • To prevent the construction of any source of renewable energy that is inappropriate for the Parish of Parkham
  • To ensure the community and parish of Parkham, as a whole, benefit from any scheme
  • Any schemes are operated to a high-standard by individuals and organisations who can demonstrate a track-record of good environmental management

The Sedborough Wind Turbine Campaign

The members of the PPCA have gathered a great deal of expertise and knowledge during the campaign against the Sedborough Wind Turbines and we hope the information on this site will help others.

Government Consultation

The Government Consultation on Renewable Energy is an opportunity for everyone to state their case.

News Letters

The PPCA publishes occasional Newsletters to help keep people informed.

Events

To raise funds we are hosting a Ceilidh/Barn Dance in the Allardice Hall in Parkham on Saturday 20th September at 7.30 pm with a bring and share supper, bar, raffle and dancing to foot stomping, thigh slapping music. All welcome !
